Review
Ever Rest is a very interesting book. Let’s start with the story itself. I’m not sure how unique books based on fictional bands are these days but it was new for me, and the added element of a man lost in the mountains sure added a different spin. There were times when I really enjoyed the story, and times when I felt it could have been cut down. If I’m to be honest, the story was actually the least interesting part of this book for me.
What absolutely fascinated me was how much emotion the author made me feel about a story I wasn’t completely invested in. I could feel the pain, anguish, confusion, desperation, and longing of the characters, as well as moments of elevation and joy. Ever Rest isn’t necessarily a very lyrical or poetic book but there was something about the prose that made it stick with me.
I didn’t connect with any of the characters either but they intrigued me. I found them to be very realistic and pieced together to make one entity. Each character was deeply flawed and not only did I like that, it suited the story much better.
Ever Rest was a different read for me and I’m glad I experienced it. If you are interested in doing the same, you can pick up a copy here.
