Book Review: As Luck Would Have It by Zoe May

At the beginning of this year, I vowed to read more light-hearted books. However, I struggled to find books that I didn’t find cheesy. Finally, after seven months of reading, I’ve found a light-hearted book that’s right up my street.

Goodreads Blurb

As Luck Would Have It by Zoe May

Natalie Jackson might keep up appearances on Instagram, but in reality, her fiancé has just jilted her after the birth of their baby and she’s moved back in with her mum. Life isn’t exactly going to plan!

So when she enters the village raffle for the holiday of a lifetime, she thinks she has no chance of winning. But her name is pulled out – and, as luck would have it, so is a ticket bought by her childhood nemesis: Will Brimble.

Surely a romantic holiday for two is the worst idea ever…right?

Review

I really enjoyed this book! I think mostly that was because of Will and Natalie. Don’t be deceived by the blurb’s description of Will. “Nemesis” might give the impression that he is an awful person but he is actually a very sweet guy (OK, he did break Natalie’s heart when they were teenagers but once you read the book you will know why I route for him). And, while As Luck Would Have It isn’t a vomit-provoking love story, you just can’t help developing a little crush on Will.

But, of course, Natalie is my favourite character. She is a strong, independent woman who is also a single mother and has her own business. She is sure of herself and strives to make the most out of life. What I like the most about Natalie is how the author presents her. She doesn’t make it out that Natalie’s strength is something unique to her, but something that every woman possesses. A confident woman with her own business should be something we see as normal, not as an exception.

While I found the ending of As Luck Would Have It to be a little rushed, overall, this is the perfect summer read. The right amount of romance and comedy, but without the unnecessary drama some chick-lit can bring.

As Luck Would Have It is available to purchase now.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
