Review
Modern thriller readers will thoroughly enjoy Missions. The story is (sadly) realistic and well-researched. It was interesting to me to see how well-researched it was from all sides. In my previous experience with this kind of book, the reader learns mostly about the investigation into the attack and, perhaps, some insight into the reasoning of the attackers. This is the first time I’ve ever read a book that delves into the detail behind a terrorist attack.
Adrenalin is pumped through the book via three different timelines: the terrorists before the attack, and separate accounts from both the French and American investigations after the attack. I love a story with several timelines and this one didn’t fail me.
Sadly, I didn’t find Missions as exciting as I thought I would. This is probably a testament to the fact that I’m already too familiar with these stories in both fiction and real life. What would have given the book a slight edge for me is if I could connect with the characters, however, I felt that none were developed enough to achieve that.
If you are looking for an entry point into the modern thriller genre, I can wholeheartedly recommend Missions. Don’t let my cold heart put you off!
