Review
I’ve reviewed all of Mike Russell’s short story collections to date (have a read if you haven’t already seen my reviews of Strange Medicine and Nothing is Strange). With this third book, Mike still leaves me puzzled but wide-eyed full of admiration.
I think of all Mike Russell’s books, this is the one I enjoyed the most. I feel like I got a lot more from his stories than usual and there were two big themes that stood out to me: missing people and our fear of death. Plus, as usual, the stories had my mind running riot. I really had to think about what the author was saying and question what is real and what isn’t.
However, that was just my experience. Strange Secrets provides the reader with whatever they need at the time from the stories. If you feel like breaking out of your comfort zone for a bit, do so with these quirky, creative, and imaginative stories.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
