Wuthering Heights fans, are you with me? It’s finally time to find out where Heathcliff was all those years and how he made his fortune.
Blurb
Heathcliff* by Sue Barnard fills in the gap between Heathcliff’s departure and return to Wuthering Heights. With improved manners, a better appearance and a lot of money, just what did happen to Heathcliff. The answer is here.
Review
On the off chance that you have never read Wuthering Heights, it is still possible for you to read Heathcliff and enjoy it. The author does a very good job of filling in need-to-know details for new readers. There is an extensive character list at the beginning, and parts one and two cover occurrences from Wuthering Heights. However, if Wuthering Heights is on your TBR list and you plan on actually reading it, keep Heathcliff for afterwards as it contains some serious spoilers.
I have to admit that sometimes the story was a bit repetitive. See, each of the short chapters is told by a different character and sometimes one character will tell us a part of the story and the next character will tell us more or less the same thing before moving on. Other than that, this was very enjoyable.
I’m a big Wuthering Heights fan and it was great to see more of the sensitive side of Heathcliff and how he succeeded in a world very differing to that of The Heights. Now, I’m not going to say anything about what happens in this world but it’s very interesting. Also, based on the research the author did, the life Heathcliff led during his away years is actually very likely.
So, if you are a fan of Wuthering Heights and you always wanted to fill in the gap, this is the book for you.
I was sent a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
