I have a dark secret to divulge. I am a massive fan of Honey Boo Boo and her madcap family!
Some of you may cheer this revelation while others may have automatically decided to avoid me from now on. That is ok. It seems like the entire world is split down the middle by the Thompson family.
Sometimes when I watch this show and they do something rather disgusting (walking outside with no shoes being a particular pet peeve of mine) I ask myself ‘what the hell are you doing?!’ Yet these moments don’t last long and upon the finish of the show I have a warm feeling inside.
Here is why I love Honey Boo Boo:
1. Alana (Honey Boo Boo) gets more exercise than any child of her age I know. Yes she is overweight and this is most likely due to a limited diet. However, if you watch the show, she is always scooting around the place whether it be swimming, dancing or mud bogging making her a lot fitter than we think.
2. June (Mama) does the very best for her children. Her love for her family, and the love she has instilled in them for each other, is what sticks out the most for me. While they may be making more money per episode then what I do in a year, this hasn’t always been the case, yet she has raised these children to always look out one another and have a deep sense of respect for both themselves and others. Which leads me to my next point………
3. They have a great attitude about themselves and a sense of self-confidence which most of us can only dream about. I may weigh a lot less than them, I might have better manners and a sense of etiquette, but I don’t wake up each morning with a sense of pride about myself that can help me overcome anything. In an age of materialism and judgement, it is refreshing to see a bunch of good-hearted people who are proud to be who they are. We could all learn a thing or two from them!
4. They are tolerable of all kinds of people. Now I can’t say from experience but from what I see and hear from others Georgia is still a rather narrow-minded place to live. It made me very happy to hear how at a very young age, Alana is openly accepting of all people no matter their sexual preference.
